Jordan Planet Staff

Since I first realized that Jordan Planet will be more than an automated self-run aggregation site (translation?), I was sure that I don’t want it to me a one man show. I have an experience with myself when it comes to such things. I could just suddenly loose interest, without a warning, and start to pull out. Although I can’t see this happening with Jordan Planet, I wanted to make sure that it won’t effect JP even if it happens.

Natasha had been helping and acting as a partner with me on Jordan planet for the last 10 months. And the more success JP had, the more people stepped up, and volunteered time and effort into this project. Roba and Iyas had a major role in the site redesign last august, and along with Mariam and Lina, they all are taking care of important content in the site, and providing valuable feedback and initiatives for the project.

And so, without really knowing or planing, a “Team” of volunteers is now taking care of the project’s direction and well being. Iyas, Lina, Natasha, Mariam, Roba and myself are what you could call “Jordan Planet Staff”. I’m really glad and happy for their involvement, and I have to promise them that Jordan planet will stay a non-profit project, with the aim of opening a window to Jordan through blogs, and promoting blogs and bloggers from Jordan.

I ofcourse can’t forget the efforts and help that many other bloggers had been, and continue to provide for Jordan Planet. Linda who provided great help in processing applications to join Jordan Planet, Ammar who gives a hand and an opinion when he is not busy being late on JP meetings :p, and ofcourse Ahmad who’s expert opinion had and will always be of great effect in Jordan Planet.

<rude>PS. Please, no more comments saying “you are doing great isam” or “Thank You”. You can help by giving suggestions or feedback</rude>

    Well
I liked the idea (I was watching it since day 1).
لكن ألا يمكن أن نستغلها لنشر الكتابات باللغة العربية ؟؟
قد يكون هناك آراء بأننا نريد أن نخاطب العالم, لكن لماذا لا نبدأ بمخاطبة أنفسنا ؟؟

At some point in time you will need to have a definitive Job title for each staff member even though they all are volunteers. The way I understood it from your post, only Linda has a definitive job title, and that is : Membership processor, the rest of the names that you listed have all been painted with one color brush called “Helpers” For instance, you said that Natasha has been helping you for the past 10 months, what is she helping you doing? what is her exact job title? Roba has been instrumental, in what! Don’t take me wrong, I know that Roba is instrumental in everything she do, but still in order for her to be recognized, she still need to have a definitive job title in Jordan Planet blogsphere. The same goes for Ahmad, Ammar, Miriam, and Lina. They are all capable people and deserve hat tippings, nevertheless, they need to have an official job title other than plain “helper”.

You can begin by developing organizational structure, by creating a certain number of position titles, you can appoint individuals for the positions identified, or hold elections for the nominees.

I think that you have enough members to hold a plenary. It is very important in any organization or association to know who is the “go to” person for this or for that need.

I noticed that Firas raised some concerns on at least two different occasions but regrettably I haven’t heard any feed back addressing some of his concerns.

I remember he requested that a piece about Jordan Planet be considered for Wikipidia, and his request fell on deaf ears although the same topic was raised for a second time by Naseem Tarawneh, and then more recently Firas inquired about the criteria with which the topics that will be reposted in the global gets selected, but again an eerie silence was the only thing that we heard.

regarding titles and positions, I am not a big fan of it, but who knows, maybe in a year time we will find that it is needed.

Regarding the Wikipedia article, I am waiting for it as well, I don’t think that anyone need an approval or a blessing to write a new article in wikipedia. After all the wiki allows anyone to create and edit anything. So whoever would like to promote Jordan Planet in the way he/she thinks is good, great thanks go to him/her. If anyone needs help from me personally, or from Jordan Planet please speak up.

From what I read in Feras’s and Naseem’s posts they said they would like to do it, and so, I didn’t expect that there is something needed from my side. “Deaf ears” is kind of a strong expression for this. For me, in such project, and volunteer spirit, no approval should be needed or expected. Naseem wrote a great piece in JO about Jordan planet, and so did Natasha. As well Lina, Ammar, Roba and many others had been supporting JP without waiting for “green lights” or anything. So I hope that everyone do.

Jordan Planet now have a Forum, I hope to move this discussion to it, in order to have everyone involved..

Thank you very much Hatem for your great feedback, and I look forward continuing this discussion in the JP Forum

Oh, and Hatem, chillax dude. That’s the open source spirit. And since you’re wikipedia-sessive, here’s a definition of Volunteerism from wikipedia:

Volunteerism is the willingness of people to work on behalf of others without the expectation of pay or other tangible gain. Volunteers may have special training as rescuers, guides, assistants, teachers, missionaries, ham radio operators and in other positions. But the vast majority work on an impromptu basis, recognising a need and filling it, whether it be the dramatic search for a lost child or the mundane giving of directions to a lost visitor.

    Isam,

Sorry about the term ” deaf ears” if you noticed toward the end of my post I diluted it with ” eerie silence” it is all about euphemisim, and after all it is all meant to say that there was no reply. That is all. However, if you found it to be too strong, plase accept my sincere apology. I’m actually too new in here and not familiar with the do’s and dont’s of the forum. I have to learn how to restrain my rehetoric as I sometimes have tendency to become heavy handed .

    Ameen,
Sorry to disagree with you, volunteer or no volunteer, you have to have a title no matter what you do. A shoe shine boy has a title, a dish washer has a title so is the nuclear scientist has a title. It has nothing to do with pay either.
