I know this is a late response, but I live and work in Aqaba. I am not Jordanian, but I find that the people of Aqaba are constantly in denial over the issue of terrorism. Even though most Jordanians disagree with the US - Jordanian relations in Iraq, they still enjoy the US dollars flowing freely into your country. Please take a look at the increase dollars that the Bush Administration has approved for USAID. Everyday I hear Jordanians saying how safe it is to be here, but when I walk down the road, I get rocks thrown at me by the children, Men and Women stare at you like your from Mars. On Fridays you hear the Mosque calling for War against the Western people and countries…come on people wake up. Report these idiots to the police or the Royal Court.

With the issue of the people of Aqaba, Anonymous is right, they need to be educated, when you walk down the streets of Aqaba and the men follow behind the foreign women like leches acting like they never seen a woman befor, my God, dont they know they look like a bunch of perverts! We are here trying to promote tourism in this country and I am ashame to tell anyone to visit Aqaba. If you dont believe me next time you visit, stay in Shallah (not sure the spelling) or take a walk up the hill and see for yourself. FYI: Just a few weeks ago a foreign woman was almost raped by a local man who keeps harrassing her. Lucky, she was able to beat him off.

I love this country and I want to see it successful, but this is very tough because I feel that there are terrorist activities brewing in this city. Dont think for once that the Iraqi people got the weapons across the desert without any help of local Aqaba people. More and more I see signs and books in the Libraries of Aqaba saying that the US is the enemy. When will we wake up?????

I understand anonymoys’ point but it’s not easy to deal with these people, they’re not asking to release a hostage or for a ransom, they’re asking to change the entire regime to a Taliban-like one and they got weapons and a lot of financial support from “whoever”.
Their leaders were rich and well-edcuated, maybe cracking on poverty and ignorance is not enough!

The problem is that poverty,the lack of education,and intolerance motive such extremist mentality…education is the key answer provided by reform in all sectors. That is economically,socially,religously, etc…

Ok, you guys are right, including anonymous who is trying to say something here, s/he is not supporting what happened and s/he trying to prove it by going over board… This whole terrorrism is really becoming a situation that needs radical solution that is way way stronger than these flying words… Khalas we dont want terror anymore, we are on this earth for God knows how long can’t we live in peace?

As for anonymous, let people get the anger and hatred out of their systems… and you are right those terrorrists deserve much much more than few curses

Well Natasha, would it really matter? I mean I could BS any name, any address…so plz don’t play “why don’t u reveal ur identity thing”.

Anyways, lets be wiser and find possible solutions…Arabs solve their problems by cursing and shouting, though it makes it worsen!!

Solution? Crack down on poverty,radical religious men, recorded brainwashing tapes…basically EDUCATION!

What I wanted to say is lets act more reasonably, and civlized…I mean we could curse them till we drop and then what?

I can’t really describe how I felt when I heard the news. I am really pissed off. And yes, “Yel3an abouhom!!!!” and #*@! the &#*@! of a mother that brought them into this world.

I really thought that Jordan was able to prevent this type of attack. The security forces are top notch and I have always felt safe in Jordan and will continue to do so. I have faith that they will quickly get to the bottom of this and capture these thugs.

Honestly, im not surprised! I was in Aqaba this weekend, and the view of the huge American warship in the middle of the port was quite striking for me to be honest and was probably even more shocking for some others.

At the end of the day while i do not and will never approve of such stupid action especially in my country, the people in charge, both Jordanians and Americans must remember that 99% of the population does not approve of Jordanian collaberation with American forces in Iraq, and the blatant example of that seen in Aqaba this weekend (the warship) and on the highways from Aqaba (American machinary being transported) could only serve to inflame the Jordanian population.

NATASHA : I think of you high,but sometimes I find your replies a little bit…mmmhhh…lousey..
I mean I know you love Jordan to the fullest and u hate it when u see someone harming it. But cursing them isn’t the solution…
Try to think of possible solution to fight the brainwashed ones, and who finance them and hit them hard.

I have full confidence in our security forces..thank God they are keeping Jordan a safe nation…

’tis a nasty sign. but i am not very surprised. in fact, i have been wondering lately when first violence would start to cross other borders in the region. i think it is very necessary to unravel the facts behind these developments. bests!
