The Downfall

May 26th, 2005

A couple of days ago I watched Der Untergang (Downfall), now I am not into German movies in general (maybe I only saw a couple, including Run Lola), but I really liked this one. The idea of having the last few days of the fall of Berlin as the set of this movie was interesting enough for me to watch it. I can’t tell if the movie was accurate or far from being accurate when it comes to history, because I am not into that really, but I hope that it didn’t give a disfigured image of those days. The Perfect CMS

May 24th, 2005

Well, to start with, I tell you there is no such thing. For those who doesn’t know what CMS is, it is “Content Management System” a program used at servers to present dynamic content. Now I use WordPress for my blog, and Drupal for Jordan Planet, and had used Mambo for several internal test sites, and tried Plone once with a failure. Read more…

Quality for the Planet

May 21st, 2005

I know I hadn’t updated my blog for a month now, mostly because of lack of time, as well because I enjoy reading others blogs than writing. for the past month many things happened that I would like to share, most importantly, Jordan Planet meeting. We had our second Jordan Planet meeting. And as Roba said in her blog, this meeting was somehow serious. Because the number of requests from people who would like to join is getting higher, and there are some not-so-good and boring bloggers in Jordan Planet now, Natasha and I put on the table the topic of having a criteria for accepting blogs to Jordan Planet. Discussion was long, and having Ahmed Humeid joining us later that evening, made us all consider and look at the problem from different angles.

Currently changes are being cooked.. I will make it public for discussion once a decision is near.

Meeting with the OSI

May 21st, 2005

Yesterday I spent most of the day with the Open Society’s Information Program board who is meeting in Amman. They were discussing Open Content in the session I joined in, and shared my opinions regarding Arabic Wikipedia and Wikimedia in general. As well they discussed blogging as a way for people to express themselves, and its effects in this part of the world. Ethan talked yesterday in his blog about English blogs in Jordan.

I am not sure if those meeting will result on anything. I really hope that some sort of initiative will happen that will help in having more people involved in the process of content building in Wikipedia. Regarding the blogs. I have no doubt that this year will be the Blog Year of Arabia is there is such thing :)
