Now this piece of news made up my day. The ministry of health intends to force Tobacco manufacturals and importers to put shock pictures showing rotten lungs, throat tumors and decayed teeth to be placed on the cigarette packets. This technique, that had been used in Canada for a couple of years now and being introduced in EU, aims to lower the number of smokers by displaying those shocking images of what smoking causes.
Now if a country needs this more than another, then it is Jordan that definitely need it. I can barely have 1 day without having to inhale smoke passively. What’s worse, is that almost ALL my friends are smokers, or became smokers recently which makes me even sadder. None of the smokers I know doesn’t realize that it is bad for him/her .. Hopefully the shocking pictures will make them realize how bad.

Natasha has done it again…. Jordan Planet was featured in Jordan Times the most popular English publication in Jordan. For those who didn’t meet me before, don’t get scared off when you see that photo in the top, continue reading, it is a great piece about Jordan Planet.
What I really like is that it viewed how we react differently to different issues, yet we are introduced within one platform, while each live in his own house. Another thing that thrilled me, is that since she wrote the article a couple of months ago (loong story) the number of bloggers in Jordan Planet jumped up, and I still have a couple of Jordan Bloggers who will join in shortly.
Thanks Natasha for this great feature in Jordan Times.

A couple of weeks ago I was in the Free and Open Source Software Workshop in Syria as an attendant and speaker. Now this is the second year that I speak in this event, and it had been a great experience for me, as well a good change to meet some of the best people in the field.
Now what really frustrated me in last year’s event, and happened again in this year’s event is deliberately insisting in calling me Dr. Isam… that might sound crazy, but believe me it is not.. Last year I got called Dr. Isam a couple of times, and got invitation cards for lunch and dinner events with Dr. by my name. At that time I found it a “funny mistake” .. but it turned out not to be a mistake.. To set things clear, I never claimed that I am a Dr. or preparing a PhD. or even thinking about doing a Masters degree: I am a simple computer science student, who got 78% in Tawjihi, and had been into computers for most of his short life (since 1990). Well, since last Wednesday I had been internetless at my home. As I am switching my ISP, the Jordan Telecom, and the stupid ISP I am switching to needs 48 hours to process the application. My bad luck made it so that a weekend falls within those 48 hours which made it 48 hours longer.
What makes it worse is that my ISP insist in some stupid procedures such as having someone from them visit the site (my house) to make the proper set up. Now I am 100% sure that whoever comes will not know a bit about what to do with my Debian box, which makes the whole visit a waste of both his time and mine. Read more…
