Home Safe

August 31st, 2004

Well, all I can say that I am glad I am back. I will start tomorrow my first day at my new work, I am really looking forward for it. Now my since of being home started once I boarded that Royal Jordanian plane. Granted, they can be late sometimes (20 minutes in my case), and some times the flight attendant can be a little rude, but this is part of what makes RJ feels like home :) and I can not deny that RJ is one of the things I feel proud of. About Me

Copy Vio

August 27th, 2004

I was reading Ahmed Humeid’slast blog entry about text stealing. I started to write a comment on his blog, then when it got lengthy, I thought I will write it in my blog. To start with, I won’t blame that young man, as templates for such letters are all around the world, and templates for things like cover letters, routine papers and so is wildly used. As for that company :) I know at least other 2 or 3 similar cases, it is sad.

Another thing, I am involved in Arabic Wikipedia, which is about creating a “open content” encyclopedia. A very major concern for us there is copy right violation, we strike it hard, no toleration. Now many arabs come to Wikipedia wanting to help, and they start to copy and paste things. Although we have warnings about Copyright violation all over the place, it seems that people had developed the ability give it a blind eye. Google had been the best tool to catch up those copyright violations, as most people don’t even bother with even personalizing to the text, to hide things up :)

Home soon

August 26th, 2004

Today I booked my flight home, and I am really happy about it. Although I had been here (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) for a little more than 3 months (which is not long at all) probably it is life style here that got me miss home so soon. Now don’t get me wrong or something, I miss home, but probably I wouldn’t feel it that strong if things here were a little different. I am spending long hours in the office now to wrap up things, it seems that everything is on schedule, and hopefully no surprises will happen. Read more…

Reiser 4 is out ! Do I want to try it?

August 24th, 2004

I read in Slashdot today about the release of Reiser4 File System. Now I had been reading about it for the past months, and how many believe that the future of file systems in Linux is in reiser4 and so. I did not try it so far, mainly because I am not in the mood for backing up partitions, and reformating and so :) Read more…

Blog Hunting

August 21st, 2004

Well, for the past weeks, I tried in so many ways, to look for blogs for people from Jordan. I tried to search in Google and to look within Orkut Community and so without much luck. I am sure that there are tens of Jordanians that have blogs, but I am not sure how to look/reach.

Reason is mainly because I started Jordan Planet, which aims to be a portal/syndication/aggregation to many blogs, through feed technologies used those days (RDF, RSS, Atom). I was inspired by Arabeyes Planet. If you happen to know anyone from Jordan that blogs, please leave is URL here as a comment, or send an email to addme [at] jordanplanet [dot] net.

Another thing that Jordan Planet need is a Logo, and a design. I will try to hunt for ready-made designs, and hope that a logo will fall down from the sky :)

Mujib Plans

August 14th, 2004

Now when I read about Ammar’s trip yesterday I felt bad that I did not see that part of Jordan yet. Khaldoon had been nagging for the past months on all of us to go there, I think that he will be really happy when he knows that it will happen soon. Waking up really early in a friday morning, and heading to Mujob is something that I will be looking for as soon as I am back to Jordan.

Things in 2014

August 11th, 2004

I was listening in the radio to an interview with 2 of the founders of EA Sports, the last question that the host asked was about their vision about gaming after 10 years. One of them was realistic, talking about games in high graphics quality, in near TV-image quality, smarter, more complex gaming, and so.. While the other one talked about having the games get out of the flat panels (TVs, monitors) and have it shape as 3D objects in the air. Now I could not buy what the second guy is saying at all! Windows in Desktop

August 8th, 2004

I just read a very interesting article about how “ready” is MS-Windows for the desktop. I know that sound crazy, as for most of you, Windows is Desktop (sadly). Now I find his approach funny, although he did not give any false statement in his article. He forgot the most major factor in advantage of Windows “Everyone uses it” .. well not everyone, I don’t, but most people do.

Back in Amman, we have 2 GSM mobile networks, FastLink and MobileCom. Now it is wildly known between Jordanians that Fastlink sucks, the quality and availability of their services is very low compared with MobileCom. But still, Fastlink have at least 10 times more subscribers than MobileCom, why is that ? FastLink was there first, and MobileCom came 5 years after FastLink, so when new members wanted to get mobile lines these days, they are most likely to choose Fastlink because “Everyone Uses Fastlink”. For me, as I am a rebel, and do not like the “everyone uses xyz” reason, I had MobileCom phone, and convinced my family to all get Mobilecom :) Just because MobileCom is better, as Linux is better.

Domainia

August 7th, 2004

Few days ago I got the bayazidi.com and bayazid.org domains as well. Currently they point to the active domain bayazidi.net. I am not sure why I bought them, maybe I have future dreams for Bayazidi Ltd. and Bayazidi Foundation :)

The dream of having my own business in the Open Source/Linux/Computing field is not new, but I am not sure if I am working for it or not. It seems to me that I had a slow start, I am trying now to move faster toward that goal.

Long Road to Work

August 4th, 2004

Today it took me about 45 minutes to reach work. Usually it takes no more than 7 minutes. What happened is that yesterday I slept at 10pm, which is really early for me, and woke up today at 6am. Not knowing what to do, I headed for the office very early today. On the way to work, I discovered that Panorama FM (A new MBC Station) have some really nice music and songs in the morning. Not wanting it to end, I took the longest possible road to work, to enjoy the music as much as possible.

Being in that long road to work, with really nice music and songs, I came to work today with a very happy mood, which didn’t happen for a loong time. I think I will do that more often, and I will say bye bye to staying late in weekdays.

About Me

Impossible Task

August 2nd, 2004

I had been considering getting a new mobile phone for a long time now, I want it to be a smart phone ofcourse, I lean more to getting a Sony Ericsson P900. Almost everyone around me is advising me to get my self an iMate or one of the Pocket PC machines, but I guess I am more closed-minded than I thought I am against MS things :) Ofcourse, the mobile must not be Nokia, because Nokia is the MS of the mobile world :)

Other options include Siemens SX1, Handsprnig Treo 600, Sendo X, or wait for the P910 from Sony Ericsson. I am not sure where I will go, but I will for sure take the best of all :) I will keep you updated so that you can as well make a move, and leave your Nokia, or Pocket PC-driven phone.
