I was glad to hear that Moe moved his blog from b2 to WordPress. I hoped that he will use b2evolution so that he will tell me about his experience :)
Wordpess main advantage I think is that it have incredibly clean and readable code, allowing you to make changes without much hastle. The other thing is the community, which is great. Things that I did not like is that it is too simple .. some love it because it is too simple, but I guess I am more sophisticated than you Kuru :P
OSS & Linux
Well, it seems that my family, and specially my father is counting days when it comes to how often I update my blog. So I better update it more often :) the reason I am slow is that I don’t have much to say everyday, and I don’t want to make you feel bored. But anyway, if you visit the site, then you asked for it :)
Recently I learned that Skype made available a Linux client, so I hurried, and installed skype in my PC in here, and in the PC at home in Amman (both are Linux PCs) and it had been great since then. Quality is great, much better than any phone experience.
Today I had lunch with WS in SteakHouse with some of his friends. It was really nice, I didn’t have a good steak in a long time, and I really enjoyed it there, specially with with the company.
As you probably had noticed, I have an Arabic Section now, it is completely Arabic, I will try to write there often, but probably I will write here more. I wish you all a nice weekend
About Me
One only knows the value of quietness when he misses it. There are a lot of noise around us here. To start with, I have to sleep with the AC on. I tried to turn it off a couple of time, to sleep with complete silence, but it did not work, as the weather at night here is unbearable. Youcef, my friend in khobar, says that when you go far from the city (closer to the beach probably) the weather is better because of all the heat from the Air Condition Units. At first I thought this is unrealistic, but now I believe it. The amount of noise and heat generated by the AC units outside the buildings is great.
About Me
I was in a discussion with Kuru of Arabeyes. It started with a question about RHCE, and ended up as a discussion about certifications in general, and if they mean anything. Kuru believes that they are meaningless, and prove nothing. In the other hand, I believe that they prove a minimal level of skills and knowledge.
Taking RHCE or LPI for as an example, obtaining one of those certifications proves you a certain level of knowledge and skills in the fields that those certification cover. Many people get certified as a prove of skills for their employers, or to be prepared to get engaged in new roles. But others get certified as a self-assurance, and a self prove of ability.
Not everyone need to be certified in my opinion, but being certified sure means something. If not for your work and employer, at least for yourself. It is a challenge that you were able to overcome and Konquere :)
OSS & Linux
For the past weeks I did not really use the weekends as days-off. This time I plan to do so, as during the week you long for resting and relaxing, and that can only happen when you use the weekends as weekends.
It seems that I won’t be able to be in Amman at the end of June as I hoped, things will take more time here, and probably will be delayed for 3 weeks at least. Anyhow, I started to get used to things here, now I know the nearby good restaurant.. and what to order from each one of those, and what to avoid. In fact I may write a book about it “Food and restaurants in Dammam: what, where and how” :)
Fitness plans are really close to what I thought it will be. I already lost 25 KG (Big lie). In fact, I hope that I did not get more weight :)
About Me
Today I discovered that I feel home, like I am in Amman when I am at Hashem ! I will tell you why, first of all, the food they serve, it is the same as you see in many 7omos and fool places in Amman. That’s not all, the person that takes orders is from Egypt, and the guy behind the cash register is Jordanian, and is always angry at something (typical). Now tell me that doesn’t make you feel home ! :)
For the past few days I had been trying to organize my time in a way that makes things better. I decided to leave at 8pm, never stay in the office after that, and to leave in the lunch break. As it seems (surprisingly) when you stick to working hours (and not give more) you are generally more productive.
I am glad that I got a TV, MBC Channel 2 takes most of my time when I am home at night. Mostly, they have nice movies, although I can’t deny that I watched almost all of them before.
About Me, Jordan
Well, as most of you do not know, yesterday was my 25th birthday. I had a big party in Mc-Magic…. OK, I did not, I stayed at office working until 9 pm :)
What made my day yesterday was the phone call from my family in the evening. Although we talk all the time, it was different yesterday because they were all around, including my bro who never stay home.
Anyhow, yesterday after work, I decided to go to the Gym, for the second time since I registered. I wore the new Nike shoes, the training pants, and T-shirt. When I was close to the gym I noticed that it was 11:30pm, and they started to close the lights. So I thought I will go to the Kornaish of Dammam, and have a nice walk/jog there. On my way to there, I passed by a supermarket, and one thing led to another, and I ended up in my office after midnight, watching the movie “Apollo 13″ with some Twix and Kit Kat and Mars on the table :)
Last time I had chocolate was more than 2 or 3 weeks ago, I really felt that I wanted something sweet. So instead of my fitness plans for the night, it was changed to unfitness plans :)
I woke up today on a phone from friends singing “Happy Birthday” with a very loud and awful way. It was great :) and it made up my day! Thank you guys
About Me
OK, I tried, I went to some book stores, and did not find something that may interest me. All those Windoze books and so. So .. yesterday .. I got a TV :) I could not resist… I got it, hooked it up with the digital receiver, and I am back to world.
The most important thing about the satellite for me is to wake up every morning at 8, and watch the news at Al-Jazeera. This help me not be left in the darkness regarding world events. I did that this morning, and I enjoyed it, although there is nothing in the news that can bring joy you know.
Yesterday was my first say in the fitness center (although I subscribed 5 days ago) .. in brief, I discovered that what I need is not just some weight control, but being able to work on one of those machines for more than 15 minutes. Either it is a walk, cycle, jogging, or what ever, the max I can last is 15 minutes.. after few minutes rest I can return and give it another 10 minutes, but I need to work on my fitness.
In case you do not know already, I started developing a not so nice habit, it is to read Al-Rai News paper everyday, and check the death section. I read it online of course, but for some reason I don’t want to be completely left out while being here. I want to stay close (Mobilecom mosh fastlink)
About Me
Well, for the past days, because of the extra security measures taken by the authorities in here, I got into Police Checkpoints 2 times, and in those 2 times, the police man looks at my face, without even fully stopping the car, and he instruct me to move on. So, I guess I don’t look like those they are looking for :) that is good news for me..
now I had been in the new house for 3 days, things are now really close to what I can consider “Good”. Something that I still miss, or maybe I don’t really want, is a TV. I passed by many stores, and I got good prices, for good TVs, and I have the money for it (payed by the company) but for some reason, I am thinking about getting my self a nice book, and spend the time reading instead of the TV. I may regret that in the weekend I guess :) as in the weekdays I barely have time for Extra things. Anyhow, I went yesterday to Jarir, and did not find anything that may interest me. I will look in other bookshops, or online to see if there is something that I want to read.
About Me, News & Politics
Yes, there is another move ahead of me. In 2 days I will be moving to the permanent residence. Right now, I am into writing down what I need, to make sure that I get it. For the past few days, I had been staying late at work mostly. Working most of the time, and watching a movie in at least one instance. As there are not any movie theaters in here, P2P comes to save. Movies come really late on the DVDs, and mostly because or the remastering, it loses it’s sound and picture superiority.
I discovered that more people are reading what I write here that I expected. I guess I should start be more careful about what I write :) And I will try to create more Sections and Categories, and write more valuable things. I really admire Serdal’s Site. His thoughts are really organized, and of value. I added a Linux Category to the site, and will work on writing more into it, and soon, more categories will show, making my site more organized.
